Maarit works as a Senior Expert on industrial bioeconomy in the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) at the European Commission.
Previously, she has worked on the SME policy designing and implementing the EU policy strategies and programmes, including the Small Business Act (2005), the Start-up and Scale-up initiative (2016) and the SME strategy (2020). She has also extensive experience on EU programme preparation and management, including the Competitiveness and Innovation framework Programme (CIP 2007-2013), the COSME programme (2014 – 2020) and the SME pillar of the Single Market Programme (2021-2027). Maarit holds master’s degrees in law, social sciences, arts, and psychology.
