Stijn Santen

Stijn Santen holds an MSc in chemistry and chemical engineering from the University of Amsterdam and has worked for 18 years at Shell, most recently as global business manager for CO2.  He was the architect and business manager of the first large commercially successful CCU/CO2 pipeline projects; Shell-Omya (1998) and Shell-OCAP (2005).

He acted as visiting professor at the Oil & Gas University in Italy and published his vision on innovation in 'Managing technology and innovation'. From 2009 till 2011 he was partner in the European program CO2Europipe on CO2 transport networks for CCS. In 2014 he presented a TEDx talk at The Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) on global sustainability. 

He participated in the development of the Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance for the EC and ensured that CCS would be part of it. 

In 2019 he joined EBN to develop the CCS project Aramis which is a partnership between EBN, Gasunie, Shell and Total Energies. Since 2022 he has been active in positioning EBN’s CCS activities.  

From June 2023 onwards he also acts as chair of the new ZEP CCS project network focused on accelerating and de-risking CCS projects in the EU in conjunction with the EC.
