In the years 1998-2021, Konrad Fijołek was councilor of the city of Rzeszów. In the years 2006-2010, he was chairman of the Rzeszów City Council, and since 2010, he was vice-chairman of the Rzeszów City Council. In 2021, he was elected to the office of the Mayor of the City of Rzeszów. In 2024, he was re-elected for a second term.
As the mayor of the city, he very actively places emphasis on economic development, especially in the area of the aviation industry and innovations related to this area, which is a key industry for the city and region. Since the beginning of his first term, he has been closely cooperating with the aviation cluster “Aviation Valley”, supporting it by organizing economic missions and exhibition stands at the largest trade fair events around the world, such as ILA Berlin, Paris Air Show, Farnborough Airshow, A&DS Summit Seattle, Aeromart Monteral, Avalon Melbourne and many others most significant for the aviation industry.
He is also the initiator and organizer of the Economic Council, which brings together several dozen representatives of local business, including the aviation industry, whose main task is to provide advisory and consultative support in the area of economic development of the city and region.
Since his inception, initiated the organization of many business events in the city such as “Doing business with…”, “North American Networking Night”, aimed at creating a platform for exchanging experiences with experts in various industries. He is also a co-organiser of key economic events organised as part of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, i.e. GovTech4 EU, and has supported the organisation of the EU Industry Days 2025.
During his career, he was involved and chaired numerous local initiatives focused on civic engagement, urban renewal, sustainable development and smart city field in general. As Mayor, he implemented various projects aimed at improving infrastructure, sustainable transportation, and public services, while promoting cultural and environmental initiatives.
