Solar manufacturing rising under Europe's Green Industrial Plan: opportunities and challenges – Session organised by Solar Power Europe
Solar PV installations are booming in the EU. Last year saw a record 41GW of newly installed PV, and Europe is looking at over 100GW of new solar annually before the end of the decade. Once unimaginable, now widely accepted, European energy security and climate goals deeply depend on solar. It is, therefore, essential that EU leaders carefully consider the resilience and diversification of solar PV supply chains, including reshoring at least 30GW of solar PV production across the full value chain by 2030, as is the ambition of the European Solar Industry Alliance and reflected in the proposed EU Net Zero Industry Act. Europe has a rare second chance at a solar industrial base surfing the demand boom to re-establish solar ‘made in Europe’.
The high-level panel will discuss whether the EU is on track to reach this 2030 goal and, if not, what more Is needed from a policy and financing point of view to close the gap.
