Antonio Andreoni

Antonio Andreoni is Professor of Development Economics at the Department of Economics of SOAS University of London. He is also Visiting Professor at the South African Research Chair in Industrial Development, University of Johannesburg and Honorary Professor at IIPP University College London.

In 2023 he was appointed DG GROW Fellow for the EU Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. He is a leading expert in industrial policy for inclusive and sustainable structural transformation, including energy transition, with a focus on green industrialisation and energy policy; and digitalisation and platforms, specifically on the role of skills, technology and competition policy.

He has conducted extensive research on policy governance, implementation and corruption as co-Research director of the SOAS ACE RPC funded by DFID. He has advised several international organisations including World Bank, OECD, UNDP, UNCTAD, UNIDO, ILO, UN DESA, as well as governments including the EU, UK, Finland, Portugal, Chile, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Mauritius. He has published extensively in leading international journals and serves as Editor of the European Journal of Development Research. His recent books include Structural Transformation in South Africa: The Challenges of Inclusive Industrial Development in a Middle-Income Country (Oxford University Press, 2021).
