Axel Volkery is the acting Head of Unit 'Sustainable and Intelligent Transport' in the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission.
The unit is in charge of policies on alternative fuels and infrastructure, intelligent transport systems and digitalisation. Prior to joining the European Commission, Axel worked in different positions in the public and private sector in Germany, Denmark and Belgium. A German national Axel holds a PhD in political sciences from Free University of Berlin.
