Bernhard Kluttig

Bernhard Kluttig is Director General for Industrial Policy at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. Central elements of his work are safeguarding and strengthening the competitiveness of German and European industry whilst simultaneously taking on the task of transformation: decarbonising and bringing industrial emissions down to zero. He strives to continuously optimise framework conditions for European industry whilst working on triggering and attracting important investments in new technologies.  

Previously he worked as Head of Unit for Federally owned enterprises. This work included steering the 600-Billion Euros Economic Stabilisation Fund during the pandemic.  

He joined the Federal Ministry in 2008, having had prior experience as a lawyer in the field of international business law, trade law and trade defence instruments.  

Bernhard received his Master of Laws from Martin-Luther-University in Halle-Wittenberg and studied law at University of Birmingham.
