Mrs Tovšak Pleterski is Director for Single Market Enforcement at the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs in the European Commission. 

She was an economic advisor to the President of the European Commission until June 2021 and before that a director at Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs in charge of investment, growth and structural reforms. 
At the European Commission, she also held the position of director for European and international carbon markets at the Directorate-General for Climate Action and a position of principal adviser at the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology. Before joining the European Commission in 2009, Mrs Tovšak Pleterski was the Deputy Permanent Representative in the Permanent Representation of Slovenia to the EU. In this capacity, she chaired the COREPER1 (committee of deputy permanent representatives) during the Slovenian Presidency of the EU in 2008. She started her career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and served as a Slovenian diplomat in Strasbourg, New York and Brussels. 

Mrs. Tovšak Pleterski holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Economic Policy Management from Columbia University (New York) and a Master of Arts degree in European Studies from Katholieke Universiteit in Leuven (Belgium). Prior to that, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Sciences at the University of Maribor, Slovenia.
